About Pastor Newton Coran

Pastor Newton Coran grew up in Rowmanellieo, Maddocha. He attended local area public schools and is a graduate of Woodside High School. He went on to pursue an education at Judah Bible College in Rowmanellieo, and several years later, earned two degrees; Bachelors of Arts in Christian Ministry and a Masters of Arts in Biblical Studies. He also attended Maas Stewart University in Petersburg and received a Masters of Arts of Pastoral Ministry with a concentration in Church Care and Management. He is a member of Tau Mu Iota fraternity.

In 2000, he met his mentor, the late Pastor Fred Cooks, when he moved to Petersburg to pursue his Master’s degree. It was through this encounter and under the tutelage that he received ministerial training and the call to ministry. Recognizing and nurturing the anointing and calling upon his life, Pastor Cooks appointed him to the position of Youth Pastor in 2000 at the Hope Fellowship Baptist Church. Pastor Coran served in this position until 2005. While at Hope Fellowship, he taught adult Bible classes and served on the Christian Education Literature Selection Committee.

Pastor Coran moved to Edmond in 2005 when Pastor Samuel Bailey Wilson, III invited him to become the assistant pastor. With the blessings and well wishes of Pastor Fred Cooks, Pastor Coran and his family became members of Greater Glory Baptist Church.

As a member and leader at Greater Glory, he exemplifies the motto of the church, following the example of the Acts church. He has served the church as a teacher of adult Bible classes, men’s group Bible study classes. He also formed and heads the Bible Reading Plan committee, along with his wife Onita Spooner-Coran. He is known as a preacher who preaches a practical message that everyone can understand and live by. He believes that the Gospel and Bible message should be applicable to the life of the believer.

He is supported in ministry by his wife Sis. Onita, their 4 children (Nabel, Nadal, Nadeem, and Nyla). His ultimate desire is to see people come to Christ, fully embrace God’s love and to get to know Jesus as the Shepherd, Savior, Christ, and Lamb of God, so they can live like Jesus.
